Lithuanian academic discourse revisited: Features and patterns of scientific communication

Abstract Over the past several decades, there has been an increasing interest in academic discourse investigations with a specific focus on disciplinary, cultural, and generic aspects of text construction. Studies Spanish, Italian, Greek, Portuguese, French, German, Russian (inter alia) have revealed not only universal features characteristic many writing cultures, but also unique rhetorical features, typical some them. In this article, we scientific texts written one lesser-studied languages, Lithuanian. We review here studies Lithuanian what those reveal about discourse. The first part article identifies how structures differ between English texts, whereas second presents comprehensive overview functional groups linguistic units, such as metadiscourse markers, stance engagement conceptual metaphors, these are different or similar to empirical shows current state knowledge highlights items that distinguish writing. Furthermore, highlight importance identifying traditions other languages acknowledge diversity.
